PT Toba Pulp Lestari, Tbk (PT TPL) was present to contribute to supporting lowland rice farming by distributing 2,100 Kg of Rice Seeds worth 25 million Rupiah to farmer groups through the Toba Regency Government at the Rumas Hall of the Regent’s Office. Monday (28/03/2022)
The support was symbolically handed over by the Director of PT TPL, Jandres Silalahi accompanied by the Community Development Manager (CD), Ramida Siringoringo to the Regent of Toba, Poltak Sitorus to then be distributed to farmer groups in 4 sub-districts, namely, Parmaksian District, Porsea District, Siantar Narumonda District and District Bonatua Pay Off.
Jandres conveyed that the distribution of support for the Ciherang Rice Seeds, aged 116 – 125 Hst (Days After Planting) was in order to support the economic recovery of agriculture in an area of 84 hectares divided into 4 sub-districts that were affected by flash floods on December 31, 2021.
“We represent the management of PT TPL, and are proud to be able to assist the Toba Regency government’s program in improving lowland rice management. We believe that this support can help the government as well as the fathers and mothers of farmers in improving the food security of lowland rice in Toba Regency,” said Jandres.
On this occasion, Poltak Sitorus appreciated the support provided by PT TPL as a form of TJSL (Social and Environmental Responsibility) which is the company’s commitment to sustainable development by providing economic, social and environmental benefits.
“The provision of this support stems from the flash flood natural disaster that occurred last year, causing damage and disrupting the farmers’ planting season. Then coordinate with the Department of Agriculture to immediately repair the water line and then plant rice or corn.”
“We thank the management of PT TPL through its CD/CSR, for responding by procuring 100 day old seeds so that it can help farmers to catch up with harvest time and hopefully they can plant 2 times a year. So that productivity increases, “said Poltak.
He also hopes that the farmers will make good use of this support and the enthusiasm of the community will not fade and continue to work hard in the future, managing the existing land to be more productive.
This activity was also attended by the Head of the Agriculture Service, Togap Hasoloan Sitorus, the Head of the Food and Fisheries Security Agency, Sahat Manullang and the Head of the Economic Section, Eston Sihotang.
